Mets Will Have A Protected First Round Pick

With today’s extra inning loss to Milwaukee at Citi Field, it is now guaranteed that the Mets will have a protected first round pick in next June’s Amateur Draft.

By winning five of six games on their recently completed road trip, the Mets had fallen out of protected draft pick position. However, after losing the first three games of their set against Milwaukee, they’re back in protected range – and will remain there no matter what happens with them or any other team tonight or tomorrow.
The only thing uncertain as of now, is where the Mets will pick (it’ll be somewhere between 7th and 10th). That will be known at the conclusion of tomorrow’s games.
Now that their pick is protected, the Mets will be able to sign any free agent they choose without having to give up their first round pick and the associated pool money.
