Amazin’ Look Back 8/25/1973: Giants Nip Mets, 1-0

The San Francisco Giants defeated the Mets at Shea today by the score of 1-0. The lone San Francisco run scored in the top of the first, when Garry Maddox singled in Gary Matthews. Matthews had led off the game with a single, and was sacrificed to second by Tito Fuentes. After a Bobby Bonds pop-up and an intentional walk to Willie McCovey, Maddox delivered the game’s only run.

Seaver pitched 8 innings for the Mets, allowing 1 run on seven hits. He walked one and struck out two. However, Tom’s effort was overshadowed by the stellar pitching of Giants’ starter Tom Bradley, who went the distance in blanking the Mets. Bradley allowed 4 hits, walked 1 and struck out 5.
The Mets saw their record sink to 58-69 on the season.
