Tonight at Candlestick Park, a paltry crowd of 8,692 turned out to see Tom Seaver and the Mets take on Juan Marichaland the Giants.  Perhaps the fans had a premonition, since the expected duel turned into a one sided affair.

Starting in the second inning, the Mets took it to Marichal, knocking him around for 6 runs and 10 hits in his 4.2 innings of work.  With two outs in the second inning, Tom Seaver got the scoring going when he cracked a two run double to put the Mets ahead 2-0.  The Mets exploded in the fifth, striking for four more runs off Marichal to extend their lead to 6-0.

The Giants plated a run in the bottom of the fifth to get on the board, but that was all they could muster off Seaver in their eventual 7-1 loss.
