After falling behind 1-0 in the second inning, the Mets plated single runs in the third and fourth to take a 2-1 lead.

However, in the bottom of the sixth, Jon Matlack was touched up for three runs.  After recording the first two outs of the inning, Matlack gave up a double to Bob Watson, an RBI single to Lee May, and a two run homer to Doug Rader as Houston took a 4-2 lead.

The Mets failed to score the rest of the way, and the Astros tacked on two more runs in the eighth to extend their lead to 6-2 and close out the scoring.
