After their doubleheader sweep in Atlanta, the Mets made a host of roster moves…

…McHugh has been a solid contributor in the minors, but failed to impress at the big league level after a strong debut last season.  Young, 28, was hitting .242 with a .290 OBP in 190 plate appearances for the Rockies before being DFA’d.  He’ll be joining the Mets in Atlanta.

…This was simply a paper move.  The Mets carried Wheeler today as the 26th man due to the doubleheader.  He’ll throw his between starts bullpen session in a few days before returning to the big club for his second major league start Tuesday night in Chicago against the White Sox.

…This move leaves me shaking my head a bit.  After being named the everyday center fielder prior to Opening Day, Cowgill was given only 50 at bats in April before being demoted to AAA.  He recently made his way back to the majors, and received only a handful of at bats before being DFA’d.  That’s not to say that Cowgill is an amazing talent or that the Mets will rue the day they let him go, but the guy didn’t get a fair shake here at all.

  • Andrew Brown was recalled from AAA Las Vegas and will join the Mets in Atlanta tomorrow:

…Brown, 28, was hitting .342 with a .429 OBP for Las Vegas to go along with 7 homers and 41 RBI’s.  Like Young, he’ll be joining the Mets in Atlanta.  To make room for Brown on the roster, the Mets are expected to place reliever Scott Atchison on the disabled list.
