The Mets took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a John Milner RBI ground out.  The Padres tied things at 1 in the top of the fourth, but the Mets answered right back in the bottom half when Ron Hodges lifted a sacrifice fly that put them back in front 2-1.  That’s where the score remained until the top of the seventh, when the Padres evened things at 2 when Cito Gaston blasted a leadoff homer.

In the bottom of the eighth, Wayne Garrett smoked a three run homer to put the Mets ahead 5-2 and close out the scoring.
