Amazin’ Look Back, June 2, 1973: Padres Blank Mets, 3-0

The Mets continued their west coast swing to today in San Diego, and dropped a 3-0 decision to the Padres. The Mets are now 2-7 so far on the trip, and their record has fallen to 21-24 on the season. In today’s game, George Stone started and took the loss, allowing 3 runs (all earned) and 5 hits. Clay Kirby got the win for San Diego, going the distance, and allowing no runs on only 5 hits.

The Padres scored in third, when Enzo Hernandez doubled in Rich Morales. San Diego then added 2 more in th
e bottom of the fourth, when Fred Kendall smashed a 2-run home run, scoring Ivan Murrell ahead of him. That was all Kirby would need, as he shut the Mets down the rest of the way.
