Mets to Tender Contracts to Mike Pelfrey, Angel Pagan

Most people thought tendering a contract to Angel Pagan was a no-brainer (considering the free agent market), but that was not the case for Mike Pelfrey. Big Pelf posted a dismal 4.74 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, and 1.62 K/BB in 193.6 innings during 2011. His 4.55 xFIP and .301 BABIP only solidified his mediocrity too. According to Fan Graphs, Pelfrey only produced a 0.7 fWAR, which was worth just $3.1 million. Considering he’ll be set to earn around $5.8 million through arbitration, it appears as though the Mets could have done a lot better on the open market.
