Jonathon Niese (7-6, 3.67 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, 2.47 K/BB): Niese bounced back after a bad outing against the Angels, pitching 5.6 innings, giving-up six hits, two earned-runs, two walks, while striking out seven batters. In June alone, Niese has posted a 3.16 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 4.14 K/BB, and a .250/.297/.400 line against. The young southpaw has easily been the Mets most consistent pitcher, so hopefully he’ll set the tone for the rest of the series. (Career vs. Yankees: no record)

Ivan Nova (7-4, 4.26 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, 1.37 K/BB): Nova has been exactly the same pitcher in his sophomore season as he was in his rookie season last year. He gives-up about a hit per inning (9.5 Hits/9), has league-average control (3.6 BB/9), but is truly lacking in the strikeout department (5.0 K/9). If he didn’t have a world-class offense and defense (at least while Derek Jeter has been injured), his numbers wouldn’t be as “good” as they currently are. (Career vs. Mets: .379/.400/.414 line with a 4.05 ERA, 1.80 WHIP, 2.00 K/BB)
