GAME 1 PREVIEW: Mets at Rangers, 8:05 PM

Mike Pelfrey (4-5, 4.70 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, 2.17 K/BB): Pelfrey enjoyed his best outing of 2011 in his last start. The big righty pitched nine innings, giving-up just five hits, one earned-run, zero walks, while striking-out five batters. In fact, Pelfrey has not walked a single batters in his past three starts. If Pelfrey can continue to hone his pinpoint control, he’ll certainly help the Mets win some ballgames. (Career vs. Rangers: no record)

Matt Harrison (5-6, 3.16 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, 1.45 K/BB): Harrison is certainly having a better season than he did in 2010, but one still has to be weary of how sustainable his 3.16 ERA/1.27 WHIP are. While Harrison’s .236/.317/.355 line against is respectable, his bad control (3.9 BB/9) and lackluster strikeout ability (5.6 K/9) expose his “luck” factor in 2011. Considering Harrison had posted a combined 5.39 ERA, 1.57 WHIP, and 1.31 K/BB in his three previous seasons, his newfound “success” is a little fishy. (Career vs. Mets: no record)
