Jonathon Niese (4-5, 3.75 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, 2.19 K/BB): Over his past four outings, Niese has been nothing short of terrific. The young lefty has posted a 1.38 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 3.57 K/BB, and a .252/.300/.369 line against. It’s also important to mention two of those starts were against the Phillies and Braves. Hopefully Niese will too be able to handle the Brew-Crew. (Career vs. Brewers: .531/.583/.781 line with a 17.47 ERA, 3.70 WHIP, 1.25 K/BB)

Yovani Gallardo (8-2, 3.72 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, 2.23 K/BB): Gallardo is currently leading the league in wins, owns a low ERA, and is seemingly on short path to elite-hood. However, despite posting consecutive 200-strikeout seasons in 2009 and 2010, Gallardo’s dominance so-far in 2011 has been pretty subpar (for him). In fact, his 7.5 K/9 is over two points below his eye-popping rates from the past two seasons (9.7 in 2010, and 9.9 in 2009). And it’s not as if he’s sacrificing some fire for control (3.4 BB/9 in 2011, 3.6 BB/9 in 2010). Before we all assume Gallardo is great, he’ll have to resume those high strikeout rates. (Career vs. Mets: .283/.336/.414 line with a 2.84 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, 4.29 K/BB)
