GAME 1 PREVIEW: Mets at Brewers, 8:10 PM

Chris Capuano (3-6, 5.19 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, 2.88 K/BB): His season stats aren’t particularly impressive, but the lefty pitched significantly better in May (3.99 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, 2.80 K/BB) than he did in March/Apri (6.04 ERA, 1.57 WHIP, 3.17 K/BB). Capuano’s first start in June was sparking until the seventh inning, when his defense and bullpen let him down. Hopefully that won’t be the case against his former team. (Career vs. Brewers: no record)

Shaun Marcum (6-2, 2.78 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 4.35 K/BB): No one doubted that Marcum would excel in the National League, but the 29 year-old has proved to be even better. Marcum’s strikeout totals have increased (from 7.6 K/9 to 8.6 K/9), but without sacrificing his pinpoint control (2.0 BB/9). The Brew Crew are only 1.5 games out of first place, and Marcum will certainly play a big role in whether the team overtakes the Cardinals in the NL Central. (Career vs. Mets: no record)
