R.A. Dickey (2-5, 4.50 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, 1.67 K/BB): It surely seemed that after his nasty fall while covering first base on a grounder, that Dickey would be out for a long period of time. However, the resilient knuckleballer didn’t even need additional time-off between his starts. As nice as it is to know Dickey will be healthy, the pitcher has been a tremendous let-down in 2011 (aside from his May 20 start against the Yankees). Fans only wish his knack for bouncing back from injury could somehow result in better production on the mound. (Career vs. Pirates: .197/.246/.295 line with a 3.24 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, 3.67 K/BB)

Jason McDonald (3-3, 5.23 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, 1.88 K/BB): Many Pirates fans felt McDonald should have started the season on the Disabled List, and his stats certainly support that line-of-thinking. The righty’s March/April splits (7.66 ERA, 1.82 WHIP, 0/94 K/BB) differed greatly from his May splits (3.14 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 3.75 K/BB). A healthy James McDonald is a good one, a very good one. (Career vs. Mets: .246/.357/.404 line with a 4.41 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, 1.00 K/BB)
