Jon Niese (1-4, 4.71 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, 1.71 K/BB): In his past four outings, Niese has posted a nice, but misleading 3.24 ERA. I say “misleading” because he’s also posted a 1.52 WHIP, 1.16 K/BB, and a .274/.361/.368 line against. Essentially, Niese continues to be extremely hittable. Until the young southpaw start sitting down hitters, he will continue to pitch himself out of jams. (Career vs. Rockies: .299/.361/.515 line with a 5.55 ERA, 1.52 WHIP, 2.13 K/BB)

Ubaldo Jimenez (0-2, 5.88 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, 1.69 K/BB): Jimenez finished third in the Cy Young voting last season, but unfortunately hurt his thumb to start 2011. Since coming off the disabled list, Jimenez hasn’t seen quite the success he enjoyed in the first half of 2010 (15 Wins, 2.20 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 2.46 K/BB). It’s possible Jimenez is still bothered by lingering soreness, but regardless, his start to the season is troublesome for the Rockies. (Career vs. Mets: .198/.284/.331 line with a 2.50 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, 1.73 K/BB)
