After the Mets 3-1 win against the Houston Astros last night, The Mets officially announced that 7th overall pick Matt Harvey has agreed in principle to a deal. Matt Harvey inked the deal, at the last minute. Reportedly, Harvey is expected to receive a $2.5 million dollar signing bonus, this according to ESPN’s Keith Law.
In a scouting report, the Mets had clocked Harvey’s fastball at 98 MPH. That is one wicked heater. He also has a low 80’s curveball and a mid-80’s slider as well. The only concern the Mets had with Matt Harvey was apparently the contract signing. Scott Boras is his agent. Boras also represents Carlos Beltran and Mike Pelfrey.
Omar Minaya said this about signing Matt Harvey.
"“We’ve done a pretty good job in signing most of our players, and we are hopeful that we are going to be able to sign Matt Harvey to be a New York Met.”"
Atleast there is some good news coming out of Mets camp today. With the whole K-Rod fiasco, its great to know the Mets signed one yet another piece of the future.
