Readers, you can take a sigh of relief. The Mets have swept the Braves, and are over .500 for the first time this season! They have won their last 6 of 7 games and are now hosting a series against the Manny-less LA Dodgers. Mike Pelfrey pitched 5 shutout innings against the Braves (Including several beneficial double plays) , in a win that was rained out! Jose Reyes was the only Met to score what was the only run of the game on an error by Braves 1B Troy Glaus! Jose Reyes is back to the old Reyes that we know and love! With the win, Mike Pelfrey now moves to 4-0. He now is tied for the most wins in the National League and leads the Majors in ERA with a 0.69 ERA. WOW!!! Mike Pelfrey continues to dominate on the mound. If Big Pelf continues to dominate on the mound, then he may well be on his way for consideration for the Cy Young award!
Here are my hot and not players of the Braves and Cubs series!
Hot: Jason Bay and Jose Reyes – Jason Bay has been hitting the ball as of late, and so is Jose Reyes. Jason Bay has told reporters that he is now feeling more comfortable at the plate. Maybe it has to do with the recent lineup change Jerry Manuel put out. Both Reyes and Bay have combined for 17 hits, and 5 RBI’s during the last week. With the lineup change in effect, that decision was a great move.
Not: David Wright – Overall, David Wright is on my NOT list. He hasn’t been real comfortable at the plate. I saw that, and even the dynamic duo of Gary, Keith, and Ron also mentioned that during the broadcast of the Mets/Cubs series. Defensively, Wright continues to show he is one of the best defensive 3rd basemen in the Majors.
Hot: Ike Davis – WE LIKE IKE!!!! Ike Davis continues to hit the ball well! Earlier in the week against the Cubs, Ike Davis hit his first Major League homer! He is impressing the Mets with his offensive production.
Not: Rod Barajas – Rod Barajas is a great pickup for the Mets. He has been probably the most offensive catcher the Mets have had, since the Piazza days. But, he hasn’t been producing offensively during the last two series during the homestand.
Hot (Last but not least): Mike Pelfrey – Big Pelf is continuing to make hitters pay. He is throwing all of his stuff effectively, along with throwing them for strikes. He is continuing to win games for the Amazin’s, and that is something all of us love to see. Lets hope Mike Pelfrey can continue this streak of wins.
Now, its the LA Dodgers that come into Citi Field to face the Amazin’s. Manny Ramirez will not be making the road trip as he is back in LA getting treatment on his right calf. He was put on the DL early last week. Oliver Perez (0-2, 3.71 ERA), will go on the hill against Hiroki Kuroda (2-0, 2.18 ERA). This is going to be a great match-up.
