Jose Reyes to Make Debut on Saturday

By Adam Garnett

According to the New York Times, Jose Reyes will come off of the DL and make start at SS for the Mets against the Nationals at Citi Field on Saturday. This was the possible return date we’ve seen and heard about for a few weeks. Now Reyes’ return to the lineup, which has been almost a year in the making, looks like it will be a reality in a few days.

I would expect Ruben Tejada, who will actually get his first big league start tonight vs the Marlins, to be sent down to Triple-A Buffalo to accommodate Reyes arrival. I would also expect the Mets are going to take it slow with Reyes and give him a day off sooner rather than later. In any case, this is fantastic news for a fan base dying for a positive item to latch onto.

Couple this news with a stellar performance tonight from Jon Niese, who is also returning to a major league field for the first time in many months (Aug 5, 2009) and we got something brewing here. That is until Oliver Perez and the John Maine take the mound again and torture the inner core of our Mets souls.
