Fear ye not starving Mets fans, if this nugget from Jon Heyman on SI.com is to be believed, the Amazin’s may have just been biding their time before claiming their free agent booty. Is everyone underestimating Omar Minaya and the Wilpons? A little more talk like this and I may start to actually believe the Mets are going to do right by their fans and bring some much-needed juice to their team this offseason.
I am still a bit skeptical of the organizations financial standing, but luring a trophy such as John Lackey or Matt Holliday back to Queens would squelch any lingering rumors that Fred and Jeff’s coffers are bare. Could then Mets actually be playing this market right and waiting to strike at the right time? Recent maneuvering does not inspire much confidence, but this entry on MLB.com by Anthony DiComo does.
A few side notes:
- It appears Rich Harden is on the verge of signing with Texas. Too bad. That was one guy i wanted to see the the Mets take a flier on.
- Bengie Molina is still heavy on the Mets radar and it will likely take a two-year deal to reel the oldest of the Molina catcher trifecta
- The 3-year/$29.75 million deal Randy Wolf got from Milwaukee was way more than I wanted to see the Mets shell out for the 33-year old southpaw
