Morning Mets Notes: David Wright Looks Ready for World Baseball Classic

Team USA was getting ready for an exhibition game yesterday to continue preparing for the WBC, but an injury to Mark Teixeira will cause the team to start looking for another first baseman. While swinging in the cage before the game, Teixeira strained his right wrist, scratching him from the lineup, and from the World Baseball Classic altogether. However, once the dust settled on that story, the star-studded team took the field in Arizona, playing to a 4-4 tie with the Chicago White Sox. They had to come back from a 4-0 deficit, which David Wright helped with, as he hit an RBI triple to plate teammate Ryan Braun. When Wright takes the field on Friday against, there will be a familiar face on the mound, as 2012 NL Cy Young award winner R.A. Dickey is expected to make the start, but could there be another? Omar Quintanilla Putting Together Strong Case to Make Mets Roster

When just about every Major League caliber shortstop went down for the Mets last May, Omar Quintanilla proved to be a worthy replacement while they were all on the mend. First, it was Ruben Tejada going down with that pesky quad injury. Then, Ronny Cedeno suffered an injury to his left calf. That left Justin Turner, but he soon hit the disabled list with an ankle injury, leaving New York with only one option. That option was the man they call “Q.”

Joe Saunders Wants Three Years; Will 2013 Be Johan’s Last in Flushing?

The free agent pitching market has shrunk a little more this weekend, although no one has agreed to sign with a team. Ken Rosenthal tweeted yesterday that the Mariners have a desperate need for a hitter, but are also scouring the free agent market. In his tweet, he said that Kyle Loshe would be too pricey for them, and Joe Saunders wants three years.
