Jon Heyman gives all Mets fans a glimmer of hope that the Amazins aren’t done shaping the 2013 roster. He tweeted yesterday the organization still has quite a bit of money to spend, as they’re continuing to look for help in the outfield, rotation and bullpen. The big question is, how will Sandy Alderson spend this money he has left, if he spends it at all?

Mets Potential Trade Target: Jason Kubel

So, I’ve been saying to myself all winter that there is no way Sandy Alderson would be the slightest bit interested in a player like Jason Kubel because of his poor defensive reputation. I had already read Moneyball, but I was listening to the audiobook version yesterday while driving (thanks to my lovely fiance) and right before Michael Lewis got into talking about the rise of Bill James, he said something about the former Oakland and current New York GM that made me change my mind.

Mets Interested in Joe Saunders; Diamondbacks Trading an Outfielder Soon?

It’s always tough when someone loses their life, especially around the holidays. We heard the sad news about the death of former utility man Ryan Freel late last night. It’s even worse to hear he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. During his eight-year MLB career, Freel posted a career line of .268/.354/.369. He was most well-known for his time with the Cincinnati Reds, where he spent six years, and worked his way into a starting role in 2006. On behalf of everyone at Rising Apple, we send thoughts and prayers to Freel’s friends and family, as well as all the Reds fans who grew to love him during his time with Cincinnati.
