It seems as though players who recently spend unsuccessful years with the Mets sign with teams the furthest away from New York as possible. It happened with Oliver Perez and Jason Bay, who now occupy the Pacific Northwest with the Mariners, and yesterday it happened to two more former Mets, as Andres Torres will be going back to the West Coast and re-joining the Giants.

After waking up to the news that the Mets and David Wright had agreed to an extension, keeping the third baseman in Orange and Blue until 2020, yesterday ended with us learning they’ve also officially non-tendered pitchers Mike Pelfrey, Manny Acosta, and center fielders Andres Torres.

Reports on David Wright ‘Inaccurate’; Mets to Non-Tender Pelfrey, Torres, and Acosta

Most of the news yesterday was dominated by the potential contract offers the Mets had given David Wright. First, they allegedly opened the negotiating with an official offer of six-years/$100 million. Then, according to multiple reliable MLB sources, the offer was upped to seven years and in the neighborhood of $129 million (on top of his $16 million option for 2013). After a whole day of speculation, the Mets third baseman provided a couple quotes that will make every Mets fan slouch back in their seat:
