Vic Black to throw bullpen session on Thursday

Vic Black, currently on the disabled list due to a herniated disk in his neck, is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Thursday.

Before being placed on the disabled list, Black was informed that he would not need surgery to repair the herniated disk.

Black, who last appeared in a game on August 23, is eligible to be activated on September 8.

So far in 2014, Black has posted a 2.20 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 32.2 innings pitched spanning 39 appearances.

Black returning and being effective late in the season, paired with the news that he will not need surgery, will likely allay some of the fears that surrounded him when his herniated disk was diagnosed.

It will also help bolster a bullpen that includes two pitchers (Erik Goeddel and Dario Alvarez) who apparently will not get any high-leverage innings.
