Matt Harvey threw 20 pitches from mound on Tuesday

UPDATE, 5:03 PM:

Speaking to SNY after Tuesday’s mound session, Matt Harvey said the following:

“Today obviously was getting off the mound and the next couple of times are mixing in different pitchers and eventually facing some hitters. The biggest thing is being healthy and not having any setbacks.”

As far as a potential 2014 return, Harvey said:

“I’m hoping the process keeps going smoothly, and you never know what can happen.”

In his second bullpen session since having Tommy John surgery last October, Matt Harvey tossed 20 pitches from the mound on Tuesday at the Mets’ complex in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Prior to his official session, Harvey threw five warmup pitches before ascending to the rubber.

Jon Santucci covered the session, and provided videos of Harvey’s first pitch and last pitch:

Harvey still has hope of pitching for the Mets in 2014, but the far likelier scenario will be Harvey pitching rehab games and/or in the Arizona Fall League.
