Bartolo Colon brilliant as Mets blank Pirates 5-0

In the rubber game of their three-game set against the Pirates at Citi Field, the Mets shut out the Pirates 5-0 to take the series two games to one.


Game Recap:

The Mets took advantage of Pirates miscues in the field to score single runs in the second and third inning to take a 2-0 lead.

With Bartolo Colon on cruise control, the Mets added to their lead in the sixth when a David Wright solo homer made it 3-0.

In the bottom of the eighth, Lucas Duda hit a long two-run homer to right field to extend New York’s lead to 5-0 and close out the scoring.

Highlights:

  • Bartolo Colon got the start and was tremendous. In 7.1 innings of work, Colon held the Pirates scoreless while allowing just five hits. He walked one and struck out nine while lowering his ERA to 4.73.
  • David Wright hit his fourth home run of the season, all of which have come at Citi Field.
  • Lucas Duda hit a two-run homer in the eighth.
  • Jeurys Familia got the last five outs to earn his first save of the season.

Next Up:

The Mets open a five-game set in Philadelphia on Thursday at 7:05 PM. Zack Wheeler gets the start for the Mets, opposed by David Buchanan for the Phillies.
