According to manager Terry Collins, Rice was unable to lift his left arm on Tuesday because of the back issue.
After going unused for a week, Rice appeared in three consecutive games from May 3 through May 5 before going unused Tuesday night.
So far this season, Rice has posted a 6.14 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 7.1 innings pitched over 16 appearances.
The vague nature of Rice’s ailment makes this a bit worrisome, as does the fact that he missed the end of last season in order to undergo hernia surgery.
Hopefully more clarity will be given soon as to what exactly is bothering Rice.
If this turns into a disabled list situation, the Mets will likely have to dip into the minor leagues for a lefty, though their options are thin.
