4/22 Game Recap: Mets fall to Cardinals 3-0

The Mets lost to the Cardinals 3-0 at Citi Field on Tuesday night in the second game of a four-game set.

Game Recap:

After loading the bases with none out in the fourth inning against Dillon Gee, the Cardinals got a two-run single from Jon Jay to jump on top 2-0.

In the bottom of the fifth, Chris Young launched what looked like a game-tying two-run homer, but was robbed by Matt Holliday – who jumped at the wall and reeled in the catch.

The game remained 2-0 St. Louis until the top of the ninth, when they scored an insurance run off Jose Valverde to take a 3-0 lead and close out the scoring.

Highlights:

  • Dillon Gee got the start for the Mets and allowed two runs on six hits in six innings pitched. He walked two and struck out four.
  • Jose Valverde gave up a run on a walk and a hit in the ninth.

Next Up:

The Mets play the third game of their four-game set against the Cardinals tomorrow night at Citi Field at 7:10 PM. Jon Niese gets the start for New York, opposed by Michael Wacha for St. Louis.
