Mets starting pitcher Jon Niese, who is currently on the disabled list due to an elbow injury, tossed 4.2 innings in a rehab game Tuesday night in Port St. Lucie.

Niese allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits. He threw 76 pitches.

According to reporter Bill Whitehead who was in attendance, Niese looked sharp.

The Mets are expected to activate Niese for a start on April 6 at Citi Field against Cincinnat, and Niese sounds like he’s good to go.

After the game, Niese said he felt “great” and that he was on schedule for the April 6 start.

Thoughts:

Until Niese returns to the rotation and has a string of starts without incident, it will be fair to wonder about his health.

However, Niese has progressed nicely since his second injury scare, and there’s no reason to think he’ll all of a sudden hit a wall once he’s activated.
