Friday in Port St. Lucie, both Ike Davis and Lucas Duda made somewhat of a return to game action. They each made five plate appearances during a pair of minor league games, but neither played the field or was cleared to run.
Davis, who has been out due to issues with both of his calves, went 1 for 3 with a pair of walks.
Duda, who has been nursing a hamstring injury, went 0 for 4 with a walk.
Neither Duda or Davis accompanied the Mets on their trip to Las Vegas to face the Cubs this weekend, and it doesn’t appear as if their return to Grapefruit Games is imminent.
However, both took a necessary step today. While they’re still limited, neither Davis nor Duda appears to be in jeopardy of missing opening day.
The possibility also still exists that the Mets could deal either Davis or Duda (most likely Davis) between now and when the season begins on March 31st.
