Ep. 47- Dinner, Grievances, Rule-V, And Featured Guest, Ted Berg Of USA Today

Welcome Mets fans, and all bugs of baseball, to the weekly Rising Apple Report.  The 47th episode of our podcast will be hosted by RA writer and resident statsologist, Dan Haefeli.  I will join him.

Together, we will welcome Ted Berg back to the show; formerly the senior editorial producer of SNY, and current MLB writer for USA Today’s For The Win.  You can also find Ted at his aptly named personal site, TedQuarters.

In addition to the many topics available for today’s discussion, we’ll also delve into our featured guest’s experiences with For The Win, how he got started, his competition, and what his goals for the site are.

Episode #47 also means Rising Apple Report will continue its newly evolved tradition of reminiscing and waxing poetic over players who’ve worn that particular uniform number in Mets history.  This week’s list contains several players, and two in particular, who are sure to trigger many memories and inspire debate.

Otherwise, Thanksgiving is just a week away, and that means the Hot Stove is now glowing bright orange.

The recently concluded GM/Owners Meetings provided the Mets with even more questions than answers.  Ike Davis was dangled.  A few players the Mets may have targeted quickly signed elsewhere, and meanwhile, the pickings are slimming.  Then in their quest to solidify shortstop, Jhonny Peralta‘s reps appraised his worth at ridiculously stratospheric levels.

Speaking of shortstops, Ruben Tejada is potentially filing a grievance against the Mets over issues regarding service time.

Also on tonight’s docket, Sandy Alderson and Jeff Wilpon recently accepted an invitation to break bread with entertainment mogul Jay-Z, who’s new agency is representing free agent Robinson Cano.

The Mets additionally have immediate Rule-V decisions to make.  We’ll try and predict who deserves protection and who gets exposed to next month’s draft.  If there are any late breaking developments, we’ll be sure to discuss them as well.
