Dominic Smith Promoted to Kingsport

According to Adam Rubin, recent Mets first round pick Dominic Smith has been promoted from the Gulf Coast League to Kingsport.  While in the GCL, the lefty swinging, 18 year old first baseman hit .287 with a .384 OBP.

Rubin noted that Smith’s promotion coincides with the beginning of the Appalachian League Playoffs for Kingsport.

Now that he’s been promoted to Kingsport, there’s a chance that Smith will begin the 2014 campaign there before being promoted to the Brooklyn Cyclones (the Mets’ short-season A-ball affiliate) later in the season.  Another possibility is the Mets getting aggressive, and starting Smith with Low-A Savannah.
