Tonight at Shea Stadium, the Mets took on the Reds in the first game of a four game set.
The Mets broke through first, plating a run in the fourth inning when Willie Mays hit a solo homer.
The score remained 1-0 Mets until the top of the ninth. George Stone was on the hill for the Mets and was bidding for a complete game shutout. However, with two outs and no one on, Stone surrendered consecutive singles to Dan Driessen, Tony Perez, and Johnny Bench to allow Cincinnati to tie the game 1-1.
After the Mets failed to score in the bottom of the ninth, the Reds took the lead 2-1 in the 10th when Hal King led off the inning with a homer. The Mets went down in order in their half of the 10th to fall to 53-66 on the season.
