John Buck will not be in tonight’s lineup against the Padres, the team announced, as be will go onto the paternity list. With AAA catcher Travis D’Arnaud too far away, backup catcher Anthony Recker will start tonight, batting 7th.
D’Arnaud had been in triple A Las Vegas since the start of The Mets West road trip as the club has been anticipating the baby of John Buck’s pregnant wife. The young catcher, brought over in the R.A. Dickey trade and generally regarded as one of the best coaching prospects in the game, is expected to remain with and start for the Mets until Buck returns, at which point Travis will return to AAA until rosters expand Sept 1st.
D’Arnaud, sidelined for the bulk of the year with a fractured left food, had been hitting .304 with 2 homers and a 1.041 OPS in 19 games for the Las Vegas 51′s.
