Amazin' Look Back: 7/27/1973 - Mets Nip Cards 2-1

Tonight at Busch Stadium, the Mets took on the Cardinals in the final game of their three game set.

St. Louis broke through against Tom Seaver immediately, plating a run in the bottom of the first when Lou Brock scored on a double play ball.

Seaver settled in from there, and the Mets evened things at 1 in the fifth when John Milner led off the inning with a solo homer.  In the sixth, the Mets went ahead 2-1 when a two out double off the bat of Rusty Staub drove in Felix Millan.

Tom Seaver took it from there, as he held the Cardinals scoreless from there while tossing a complete game to secure the victory for New York.

With the win, the Mets moved to 43-53 on the year and pulled within 8.5 games of first place.
