Amazin' Look Back: June 8th, 1973 - Mets Fall to Dodgers 5-3

Tonight at Shea Stadium, the Mets lost to the Dodgers 5-3.

After the Dodgers tallied a run in the top of the first, the Mets fought back with two runs in their half of the frame to take a 2-1 lead.  They led into the sixth behind Tom Seaver, before the Dodgers put up a four spot against The Franshise to go ahead 5-2.  The big blows were a two run homer off the bat of Willie Davis, and a two RBI single from Bill Russell.

John Milner hit a solo homer for the Mets in the seventh to close the gap to 5-3, but that’s as close as they would get.  It was the third loss in a row for the Mets, and dropped them to 22-27 on the season.
