Mets Promote Montero To AAA For Spot Start

The Mets have promoted right-handed pitcher Rafael Montero to AAA, for what the team is calling a spot start. Montero had been pitching at AA Binghamton since the beginning of the season. His ERA at Binghamton is 3.47 (it should be noted that it’s a bit skewed due to one poor performance where Montero allowed 7 earned runs.

Montero has given up 40 hits in 46.2 innings pitched. The most remarkable thing about the hard-throwing Montero is his control. In his 46.2 IP, he has walked only 6 while striking out 54. In his minor-league career Montero has pitched 239.2 innings, allowing 191 hits, while striking out 230 and walking 38.

The current plan is for Montero to return to Binghamton after his spot start.
