Amazin' Look Back, May 12, 1973: Mets Blank Bucs, 6-0

The Mets shutout the Pirates in Pittsburgh today by the score of 6-0. Tom Seaver was brilliant, going the distance, allowing only 2 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 1. The Mets opened the scoring in the top of the first when Cleon Jones hit into a double play, which allowed Wayne Garrett to score. The lead held until the 8th, when the Mets added 2 runs against Pirate starter and loser, Bob Moose. Ed Kranepool singled in Cleon Jones, and Jim Gosger singled in Rusty Staub for the runs. The Mets then broke it open in the top of the ninth against reliever Dave Giusti, when Wayne Garrett homered, and Cleon Jones doubled in Felix Millan. Another run scored on an error off of the bat of Gosger. The Mets held the lead in the bottom of the ninth for the 6-0 win, pushing their record to 16-14, while the Pirates dropped to 12-14.
