The Astros defeated Jim McAndrew and the Mets today at Shea by the score of 9-2. McAndrew allowed solo HRs in the second and fourth innings to Johnny Edwards and Cesar Cedeno respectively. The Mets were trailing 2-0 going into the top of the sixth, and that’s when the wheels came off for McAndrew. He allowed a three-run double to winning pitcher Don Wilson, then 2 two-run triple to Roger Metzger. McAndrew then gave way to Hank Webb, who allowed two more Houston runs.

On offense, the Mets struggled against Wilson. Their two runs came in the bottom of the seventh, on a RBI groundout by Ed Kranepool, and an RBI single by Jim Gosger. Wilson went all the way for the win, allowing just four hits while striking out eight. McAndrew lasted 5.2 innings, allowing eight runs (two earned) on seven hits.
