Today at Citi Field, the Mets edged the Nationals 2-0 to secure a series victory. Dillon Gee got the start for the Mets, and was solid from the get go.
All the Mets needed to prevail today was a solo blast from John Buck in the second, and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Mike Baxter in the fourth. From there, Dillon Gee, LaTroy Hawkins, Brandon Lyon, Scott Rice, and Bobby Parnell combined on a four hit shutout. The Mets took the series two games to one, and will be off tomorrow before opening a series with the Dodgers on Tuesday.
- After an uneven start to the season, Dillon Gee came through today. Gee hurled five and two thirds scoreless innings, allowing three hits and three walks. He struck out six.
- The Mets’ bullpen came was tremendous this afternoon, combining to toss three and a third scoreless innings to wrap up the victory.
If not for Aaron Laffey‘s atrocious performance yesterday, the Mets could’ve swept this series. Still, taking two of three from the Nats is something the Mets should be satisfied with.
