Game 128 Recap: Phillies Smack Around Mets (Again), 9-4

There are few instances where I’d rather watch a program on ABC Family than my beloved Mets, but with the type of baseball they’ve been playing lately, bring on Pretty Little Liars (and their super cute Urban Outfitters outfits). Despite 4 late-game runs, the Mets still fell to the powerful Phillies, 9-4.

Mets starter Jonathon Niese endured his worst career outing. Niese surrendered 10 hits, 8 earned-runs, 1 walk, and 6 strikeouts in 4 innings. The homeruns by Shane Victorino and John Mayberry (3-run shot) really put the game out of reach. After Niese exited the game, the Mets bullpen looked pretty solid. Aside from a solo shot of Pedro Beato, the bullpen strung together 4 innings of 3 hit, 1 earned-run baseball.

The offensive heroes for the Mets were Lucas Duda, Nick Evans, and Justin Turner. Duda, who started in right field, smacked his 7th homerun of the season (a 2-run shot). Evans, starting at first base, collected a triple and double, and Turner added 2 doubles to his resume (now 24 on the season).

There’s just something about those Phillies that brings out the worst. The Mets are now 60-68.
