It was Dillon Gee‘s first win since July 29, but the Mets, who had dropped 6 of their last 7 games, truly needed the “W.” Gee hurled 6.6 quality innings, giving-up 5 hits, 1 earned-run, 4 walks, while striking-out 5 batters. The Mets bullpen looked shaky, with Tim Byrdak walking the only batter he faced, and Ryota Igarashi surrendering two doubles and two runs, but luckily for Gee, the Mets hitters provided enough offense to keep him in the decision.
In addition to making a sensational play at third base, David Wright smacked a three-run homerun in the 3rd inning. It was Wright’s only hit of the day, but it was a big one. Angel Pagan too provided some wood, chipping in three RBI himself. Willie Harris, who started at second base and batted second, went 2-4 and added 1 of the Mets’ 7 RBI.
The Mets are now 60-63, and will face the Milwaukee Brewers in their next series.
