GAME 2 PREVIEW: Athletics at Mets, 7:10 PM

R.A. Dickey (3-7, 4.00 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, 1.93 K/BB): Since returning from his foot injury, Dickey has posted a dominant 2.93 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, 2.62 K/BB and a .210/.278/.295 line against. The Dickster looked mediocre against the Braves last week, but that was mostly in part to a [shockingly] well-time homerun by Chipper Jones. May the knuckleball be with you, R.A. (Career vs. Athletics: .307/.393/.524 line with a 6.49 ERA, 1.76 WHIP, 0.54 K/BB)

Gio Gonzalez (6-5, 2.69 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, 1.95 K/BB): Sure, Gio Gonzalez doesn’t give up many hits (7.8 Hits/9), strikes out a ton of batters (8.5 K/9), and owns a microscopic earned-run average (2.69 ERA), but the fact remains that he simply cannot limit walks (4.3 BB/9). His 1.95 K/BB ratio is almost unacceptable for a pitcher so dominant. If I were the Mets hitting coach, I’d simply tell my players “take a LOT of pitches.” (Career vs. Mets: no record)
