GAME 4 PREVIEW: Mets at Pirates, 7:05 PM

Mike Pelfrey (3-4, 5.35 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, 1.70 K/BB): Big Pelf enjoyed a successful May (3.09 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 2.00 K/BB), but was rocked in his first June outing. While the righty recovered against the Brewers last week, 2011 on the whole has been very inconsistent. Even if the Mets attempt a playoff run, the former first rounder should be made available. (Career vs. Pirates: .306/.368/.419 line with a 5.28 ERA, 1.59 WHIP, 1.45 K/BB)

Paul Maholm (2-7, 3.39 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, 1.80 K/BB): It’s almost comical that Kevin Correia is able to notch eight wins with the same offense that’s provided Paul Maholm so little run support. While his record doesn’t reflect it, Maholm is pitching his best since 2008. The best part is that his 3.39 ERA/1.17 WHIP is supported by his .223/.295/.322 line against. It would be nice if Maholm’s control was better (3.3 BB/9) and if his K/9 was higher (5.9), but hey, you can’t have it all. (Career vs. Mets: .315/.377/.399 line with a 5.15 ERA, 1.61 WHIP, 1.22 K/BB)
