Matt Harvey Continues to Shine

After receiving bad news on Jennry Mejia, it was nice to see another one of their top pitching prospects excel.  Matt Harvey, drafted 7th overall in the 2010 draft, has pitched great for the high A St. Lucie team.  Harvey, who struggled in his last start, came back tonight to have a solid outing.

Harvey had a no decision in St. Lucie’s 5-2 loss, but the numbers were very impressive.  He went 6.1, did not give up a run and struck out 9.  For the season, he is 4-1 with a 1.10 ERA and has 39 strike outs in 39.2 innings.  Just to throw in some more impressive numbers, 11 walks and opponents are batting .207 off him.

It is clear that Harvey is on a very fast track and has been even better than the organization expected.  They knew he would be good, but he has blown them out of the water with how dominant he has been so quickly.

Matt Harvey is definitely a name Met fans should become very familiar with.  You know he is the real deal when Gary Cohen is announcing his stats in the middle of a broadcast.   If Harvey continues to pitch like this, it could be very soon he is up with the big club.   I wouldn’t get too crazy and say this season, but I would not be surprised if we see him in a Met uniform sometime in the 2012 season.
