As a Met fan, it is difficult for me to give props to Philly fans, but they deserve it for last night. We know how bad a rep they have for booing, but last night they showed how well they can cheer and celebrate. The chants of U-S-A in reaction to the killing of Osama bin Laden was bone-chilling. Anyone watching this spectacle felt amazing pride in being an American citizen. It was no longer Mets vs. Phillies. It was Americans celebrating as one. David Wright said it best “I don’t like to give Philadelphia fans too much credit, but they got this one right.”
The icing on the cake for the night was the Mets defeating the Phillies in extra innings, avoiding the sweep. It was a great night for the Mets, and an even better one for America.
