Game 1 & 2 Preview: DOUBLE-HEADER Today

Game 1 (4:15 PM):
D.J. Carrasco (0-0, 4.05 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, 1.33 K/BB ratio): Carrasco has not started a game this season for the Mets–in fact, the reliever has not started more than 1 game since 2005. It was originally rumored that Dillon Gee would get the call from Triple-A for the start, but alas, the Mets probably wanted to save money on the bus fare. Don’t expect Carrasco to go more than 4 or 5 innings (in an ideal scenario). (Career vs. Braves: .000/.000/.000 line with a 0.00 ERA, 0.00 WHIP, and 0.00 K/BB ratio)

Derek Lowe (1-2, 1.45 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 3.00 K/BB ratio): The veteran sinker-baller has looked very dominant for the first time since 2008. Lowe shut down the Nationals, Brewers, and even the Phillies this season with his [unsustainable] 1.45 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and 3.00 K/BB ratio. The righty has been historically terrible against the Mets, so at least the team has that going for them. (Career vs. Mets: .317/.371/.454 line with a 5.75 ERA, 1.59 WHIP, and 1.38 K/BB ratio)

Game 2 (7:30 PM):
Mike Pelfrey (0-1, 10.80 ERA, 2.31 WHIP, 0.67 K/BB): Mike Pelfrey has been nothing short of horrendous for the Mets so far in 2011. In his first start of the season, the supposed “ace” pitched 4.3 innings of 4-hit, 5 earned-run baseball, with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts. Hoping to get back on track, Pelf only lasted 2 innings in his next start, surrendering an astounding 6 earned-runs on 8 hits and 1 walk. The right-hander looked “better” against the Rockies earlier this week, but still gave up 6 hits, 3 earned-runs, and 4 walks in 5.3 innings pitched. It’s doubtful Pelfrey will pitch this poorly for the entire season, but it’s also doubtful he’ll actually ever be an “ace.” (Career vs. Braves: .322/.398/.490 line with a 5.56 ERA, 1.70 WHIP, and 1.11 K.BB ratio)

Jair Jurrjens (2010: 7-6, 4.64 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, 2.05 K/BB): Jurrjens seemed like a legitimate ace at age 23 in 2009 when he posted 14 Wins, 2.60 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and a 2.03 K/BB ratio. The righty suffered a variety of injuries in 2010 that limited him to a pedestrian 116.3 innings (4.64 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, and 2.05 K/BB). An oblique injury has prevented Jurrjens from pitching this season, so it has yet to be seen which Jurrjens will show up in 2011. (Career vs. Mets: .220/.303/.293 line with a 2.81 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and a 1.14 K/BB ratio)

Game 1 (4:15 PM):

Game 2 (7:30 PM):
SS Reyes, CF Pagan, 3B Wright, RF Beltran, 1B Davis, LF Harris, 2B Murphy, C Nickeas, P Pelfrey
