Let’s be honest: the Mets second base situation is a mess. While a Daniel Murphy/Brad Emaus platoon makes sense on paper, the matter is complicated by the fact that Emaus hasn’t stood out in camp and there are still questions about his and Murphy’s defense. Throw in Emaus’ Rule 5 status, Castillo’s salary and for some reason Luis Hernandez and you have Met fans yearning for the days of Edgardo Alfonzo (or even Jose Valentin circa 2006). However, despite no solid option for 2011, there is one reason which I’m not worried about the position long term: Reese Havens.
