Seems as if a few , oh, minor bits of news from Mets Land broke since my last post on the dreadful state of the Mets pitching staff. The first really comes as no surprise. Jon Heyman is reporting on SI.com that Jose Reyes will start the season on the DL and possibly make his season debut on Saturday April 10th vs Washington. As I wrote a few days ago, this is the right decision. Let Reyes get an extra week or so to get himself back in prime playing shape and make an impact right away.
Now onto the second item [...]

I apologize for not posting something in a bit. I usually do but time is of the essence i guess.
Anyways, The Mets put Pat Misch on waivers acouple days ago, and told him that he would not make the Mets roster. Because of that, Pat Misch has decided to clear waivers, and report to Triple-A Buffalo! Pat Misch is going to be one of the Mets “insurance” pitchers. In case someone gets hurt, he will get called up more than likely. Thats why its “insurance”.
Quick. Can you tell me what these numbers represent?

If you guessed the spring ERAs of John Maine, Mike Pelfrey and Oliver Perez, you win a prize. You win a cupie doll. Not exactly the type of numbers one would want to see from their team’s 2nd-4th starters. In fact, not exactly the type of numbers one would want to see from the dudes are about #10 and #11 on the organization’s depth chart. I think what I am trying to say here (and what I have said here 18,000 times in the past few month) is that the Mets are [...]
Jose Reyes took another step toward returning to game action today in Port St. Lucie when he took live batting practice for the first time since being cleared by doctors 6 days ago. According to Marty Noble on MLB.com, Reyes took 25 of the 39 pitches thrown to him by minor leaguers Dillon Gee and Mike Antonini. Reyes has yet to play in a game this spring after being diagnosed with an overactive thyroid in late February.
With only five games left on the exhibition schedule until the Mets open up the season on April 5th at Citi Field, it appears more [...]
Don’t tell anyone but David Wright appears ready to resume his role of superstar 3B for the New York Metropolitans. Amongst the drama of the Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran sagas, Wright is quietly having a very productive Grapefruit League campaign. As of yesterday, Wright was hitting .317 with a team-high 4 HR and 11 RBI so far in March.
Yes, it is nice to see that the power stroke appears to have returned (though let’s remember this is windy St. Lucie and not the cavernous Citi Field), but the most positive development I’ve noticed is where Wright is getting his [...]
It has been a few days since Ike Davis was cut from spring camp and Jenrry Mejia showed off his golden right arm in back-to-back outings but I wanted to touch on each topic. First to Davis. If you are a regular reader of this space, you already know my feelings about what role Ike should have been playing for the Mets on Opening Day.
With Davis hitting .480 with three home runs and 10 RBI before being jettisoned and incumbent Daniel Murphy sucking big time (.162, 2 HR, 6 RBI), the Mets stance on wanting the kid to get another [...]

Jerry Manuel told reporters after yesterdays game against the Astros that the 5th starters spot is Jonathan Niese’s “to lose”. So that means that Jonathan Niese will be the fifth starter for the Mets.
I feel as though its the right move on their part. I don’t think that Fernando Nieve is ready to obtain that role in the rotation. But, even though he isn’t going to be their fifth starter, the Mets may put him in the bullpen. With this roster battle coming to a close its clear that Jon Niese will be the fifth starter for the Mets.
According to MetsBlog.com’s Matt Cerrone and Deadspin.com, new Mets hall of famer Doc Gooden was arrested for DUI for driving under the influence of drugs, leaving the scene of an accident, and child endangerment (his five year old son in the backseat of Gooden’s car). There was no word on whether he is out on bail.
No surprise to me whatsoever. We all know of his troubled past, and i still wonder about the Mets picking him as their first hall of famer. I feel his off the field actions are what makes me feel puzzled with the selection.
I mean we [...]
News is coming in fast and furious this early afternoon, and by golly some of it is about the most positive news Mets fans could have imagined materializing. According to the Mets, Jose Reyes’ thyroid levels have returned to normal and he has been cleared to resume baseball activities. Reyes will fly form New York to Port St. Lucie today and is expected to be in Mets camp tomorrow. When Omar Minaya addressed the media before today’s tilt vs. the Braves, here is what he had to say regarding the possibility of Reyes being ready for Opening Day:
“We’ll see. Right [...]
