Jason Bay is on his Way to Mets

AUTHOR: Adam Garnett | IN: Mets | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Well, it took almost a month, but it appears as if the Mets finally have their man. As was first reported by Mike Francesa on WFAN, the Mets and Jason Bay have agreed to a 4-year/$66 million deal (with a vesting option for a fifth year that would increase the deal to $80 million), pending a physical. You know I have been screaming on this space for awhile now for the Mets to get something…..ANYTHING…. done and this certainly is a big something. Of course I was hoping the something big was going to be a John Lackey signing or [...]

The Most Depressing Mets Piece I’ve Ever Read

AUTHOR: Adam Garnett | IN: Mets | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

Mets fans have been teased, stomped on, and had their hearts broken too many times to count. This past year’s doings were enough to make some fans I know wonder if it is even worth investing any more time, energy and most importantly money on this organization. Mike Vaccaro, lead columnist at the NY Post and self-admitted Mets fan, penned this pointed piece in today’s paper.
The most damning part of this column was the part where Vaccaro writes this:
“Every few days, you hear another story about another season-ticket holder being interrogated by a Mets ticket agent, sometimes being challenged about [...]

Mets Still….Waiting…..on Jason Bay and Bengie Molina

AUTHOR: Adam Garnett | IN: Mets | COMMENTS: None Yet

Check out Vince Lombardi in that famous NFL Films clip:

I think Lombardi just about sums up what most Mets fans are thinking right about now in relation to the team’s current tack on negotiations with Jason Bay and Bengie Molina. One gets the feeling that if the Mets don’t step up their effort and possibly “overpay” for one or both of these guys, they may end up getting screwed. Check out what FoxSports.com baseball aficionado Ken Rosenthal has to say about this ever-confounding situation.
It is clear to me that the Mets brand has become so poisoned with the equally inept [...]

Jason Bay….Still not a Met (Bengie Molina Either)

AUTHOR: Adam Garnett | IN: Mets | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

It has been over a week since the Mets dalliance with Jason Bay began. Reports of a 4-year/$65 million offer to Bay surfaced last Thursday, the final day of the Winter Meetings is Indianapolis. Bay still remains unsigned, and his list of suitors has dwindled in a big way in the past week.
The Mets primary competition for Bay, the Red Sox, whom the outfielder rejected a 4-year deal from are seemingly out of the bidding after signing Mike Cameron a few days back. The Yankees, with Curtis Granderson now in the fold and a Nick Johnson signing imminent, have no [...]

Are Mets Fans Being Duped by Bay Offer?

AUTHOR: Adam Garnett | IN: Mets | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

If Joel Sherman’s theory in his column in today’s NY Post is correct, Mets fans are being duped by the 4-year/$65 million offer the club extended to Jason Bay yesterday.
Sherman surmises that due to the pervasive negativity surrounding the team and subsequent lagging ticket sales, the Mets possibly made the offer to Bay to “change the subject”. While I’d like to believe that Sherman is off base with his theory (he has been known to stir up a fight in his writing just for the sake of good copy), there are elements which lead one to believe he is on [...]

Mets to Make Jason Bay an Offer Today?

AUTHOR: Adam Garnett | IN: Mets | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

According to Mike Francesa, the Mets are prepared to make Jason Bay an offer today at some point. I have my issues with Francesa’s character and as radio personality, but I give him this…he is usually in the know when it comes to Mets inside info. Wow! I guess what I wrote last night about the Mets lying in the weeds was accurate.
We already know Bay turned down a 4-yr/$60 million offer from Boston so one would think the offer would have to be more that $15 million per year or it would have to be a total of five [...]

Winter Meetings Wind Down…..Are Mets Ready To Pounce?

AUTHOR: Adam Garnett | IN: Mets | COMMENTS: None Yet

Fear ye not starving Mets fans, if this nugget from Jon Heyman on SI.com is to be believed, the Amazin’s may have just been biding their time before claiming their free agent booty. Is everyone underestimating Omar Minaya and the Wilpons? A little more talk like this and I may start to actually believe the Mets are going to do right by their fans and bring some much-needed juice to their team this offseason.
I am still a bit skeptical of the organizations financial standing, but luring a trophy such as John Lackey or Matt Holliday  back to Queens would squelch [...]

Mets Eyeing Corey Hart….Not Much Else

AUTHOR: Adam Garnett | IN: Mets | COMMENTS: None Yet

As anticipated, it is that other team with the interlocking NY on its cap making the most noise at the Winter Meetings. As is being reported, well, just about everywhere, Curtis Granderson is just about on his way to the Yankees in a three-team blockbuster deal with Arizona and Detroit.
The Mets? Well….Omar reportedly has had a lot of meetings with a lot of team and player representatives and it seems as if everything I read from the likes of Jon Heyman, Ken Rosenthal and Joel Sherman points toward the Mets not being heavy players for anyone right now. They like [...]

And We’re Off…..Winter Meetings Underway in Indy

AUTHOR: Adam Garnett | IN: Mets | COMMENTS: None Yet

In honor of the baseball world congregating in Indianapolis for the Winter Meetings, I get to say this….Gentlemen, open your wallets. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how one feels about it), with everything we’re hearing from those in the know in the newspapers and on the radio waves, the Mets will not be one of those teams shelling out the green at these meetings.
The Mariners reportedly fired the first big salvo before these meetings even got underway by inking leadoff-man extraordinaire Chone Figgins to a 4-year/$36 million deal with a vesting option for 2014. If you are a regular reader [...]

The Fallout from the Braves Signing Billy Wagner

AUTHOR: Adam Garnett | IN: Mets | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Great news Mets fans….jettisoning Billy Wagner to the Red Sox at the end of last season saved the team $3.2 million. All it cost them was the chance at gaining two very high draft picks. Adam Rubin outlines the details in his latest blog post on the Daily News website.
I remember being around the team back in August when Wagner was put on waivers and claimed by the Red Sox. The talk amongst those that were covering the team was that the Mets were crazy not to keep Wagner and offer the Type A free agent arbitration in hopes he [...]
