When I spoke of a total fumigation of the Mets organization a number of times in this space, this part of the equation is notexactly what I had in mind. One comment I saw on the SI.com blog where I found the link to Bart Hubbach’s blog post about the possible uniform changes was particularly hilarious. Here it is:
“Will they also add “Brooklyn” across the front? I hear Dodgers is already taken.”
Wow…That’s cold, but very telling about how many Mets fans feel about the hierarchy of their franchise. It would be a sad day if what is being reported here [...]

Be honest Mets fans. As much as you’ve rightfully turned your back on this team and this season and this organization, probably many months ago, it still felt pretty satisfying to essentially put the nail in the Marlins coffin winning two of three in South Florida this past weekend. The visions of the Teal Terrors (and the Mets) ripping our hearts out at Shea the past two seasons is not soon to be forgotten. Thankfully, Jeff Francoeur wasn’t around to remember those two debacles and his play over the past weeks, especially yesterday shows it. This guy is such the [...]
The above title is about all I have new to say about the Mets at this juncture. As the losses mount, there is not much to grasp onto right now. I think all Mets fans can join me in saying they can’t wait for the October 4th to come and go and for the season to be put out of it’s misery. Hey, at least you can root against the Yankees. They officially clinched a playoff spot yesterday and are well on their way claiming home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.
But back to our lovable Metropolitans. Believe it or not, the [...]
If you stayed up to watch last night’s meltdown, you are a better man than I. NEWS FLASH….Daniel Murphy is the not a major league fielder. He needs to find his way to that other league that has the silly DH rule. With the loss, which goes in the same category of brutality as Luis Castillo’s dropped pop-up, Ryan Church missing third base and the game ending on an unassisted triple play, the Mets fell to 20 games under .500. The Mets were slotted to win 90 games this season in Vegas. They have a chance to actually lose 90. [...]
I am sure most of you were bust watching the first full slate of Sunday NFL action, but talk about pouring salt in an open, oozing, gaping wound. I was fortunate enough to watch Pedro Martinez shut the Mets out for eight innings on Sunday night (among the other things I was watching on the tube…what a day of sports!!!). I have nothing but love for Peety. He is a proud man and a great teammate and I was sorry to see him go but seeing him dominate the Mets in a Phillies uniform was downright painful.
Capping off a wet and wild Saturday in Philadelphia, David Wright hit a two-run bomb (his second of the day) off Phillies closer du-jour, Ryan Madson in the top of the ninth to give the Mets a 10-9 lead and eventual come-from-behind victory. The win was all well and good and sweet, due to the fact that it was against the hated Phils, but the real story is that David Wright finally reached double digits in home runs….On freaking September 12th!!!!! Wow!
What struck me was the type of long balls Wright’s two shots were in this game. The first was [...]
Jose Reyes Pops Off
It is highly unlikely that we will see Jose Reyes back in the lineup for the Mets this season. That fact didn’t stop the normally jovial shortstop from popping off to the media on Tuesday before the club’s game vs. Florida. Reyes was back at Citi Field to take part in the Mets 2009 team photo (that one should be a real keepsake) and held court with the media after the festivities. Jose was not happy about some of the criticism that has been floating around that he hasn’t worked hard enough in his rehab and really didn’t want to [...]
Carlos Beltran Returns
According to the lineup posted by Newsday’s David Lennon on his blog, Carlos Beltran is in the lineup vs. Florida. He will of course be manning CF and is set to do battle at the plate for the first time since June 21st, in the cleanup spot. O happy day. Please stay healthy, which in turn will keep you wealthy and will hopefully make Mets fans of the Universe do high fives.
I am a couple of days late with this discussion, but considering the enigma that is Mike Pelfrey, I wanted to delve in a little bit. How frustrating is it to watch this guy? My goodness. Performances like Sunday against the Cubs (8 IP, 5H, 1BB, 5K) make you salivate at the prospects of the 6′7″ Wichita St. product being a dominant #2 starter for years to come behind Johan Santana. Pelfrey was dominant against a pretty powerful Cubs lineup and more importantly, he seemed to have his head together the entire eight innings.
That has been the knock on Big [...]
It appears as if Carlos Beltran is on the precipice of returning to the Mets lineup. According to Jerry Manuel, Beltran could be in the lineup Tuesday vs. Florida “if he’s still somewhat symptom free” a by then. Beltran played a full nine innings in center field last night for the Brooklyn Cyclones, his third rehab game with the Mets Single-A affiliate. Carlos is expected to play another nine innings in the field later today and a decision on his future should come in an official capacity soon after.
I must say I surprised to be even writing about the prospect [...]
