David Wright and Carlos Beltran Injury Updates

AUTHOR: Adam Garnett | IN: Mets | COMMENTS: None Yet

Just wanted to give a few quick injury updates on two of the Mets stars. David Wright is slated to come of the DL tomorrow in Colorado. According to David Lennon of Newsday, Wright will don the new Rawlings helmet, which is a more protective than the one Wright was wearing back on August 15 when he was beaned in the head by Matt Cain. If Wright had it his way, he’d be in there everyday, but don’t expect to see that to be the case. The Mets are going to be cautious with their franchise player and Jerry Manuel [...]

Will Wilpons Be Forced To Sell?

AUTHOR: Adam Garnett | IN: Mets | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Take this bombshell at face value considering the source, but FoxBusiness.com is reporting that the author of a new book on Bernie Madoff is surmising that the Wilpons will be forced to sell the Mets….as soon as next year possibly. WHOA!!! Holy freaking sh**. If true, that is one hell of a nugget for the NY Post the throw out on a rainy Friday night in the Big Apple.
The Mets were quick to refute this claim:
“The author of the book has no knowledge or facts related to the Mets business operations or finances. Her speculation that the Mets — or [...]

Jose Reyes Update

AUTHOR: Adam Garnett | IN: Mets | COMMENTS: None Yet

With aLL that has been going on with our lovable squad, it is almost as if Jose Reyes and his injured calf…or leg…or hamstring…or hamstring tendon has become a forgotten man. Well, Adam Rubin brought Jose back to the forefront with his piece today in the Daily News.
If you were listening to the Mets-Cubs broadcast this afternoon, Gary Cohen pointed out that the Metstook umbrage not with Rubin’s advancement of the Reyes injury story, but with the headline that accompanied it. If what Rubin wrote is accurate, the Mets have a point.
The headline read, “Mets SS Jose Reyes has completely torn hamstring, [...]

Oliver Perez the Latest Casualty; Let the Second Guessing Begin

AUTHOR: Adam Garnett | IN: Mets | COMMENTS: None Yet

With the news that Oliver Perez, long with his $12 million salary, bum knee, and bum brain, is the latest Met to find his way to the season-ending portion of he DL, a number of stories have begun to filter out about the unthinkable rash of injuries that has beset this club. Dave Lennon’s piece in Newsday is the most comprehensive I’ve seen so far in giving a chronology and in depth analysis of the kind of mismanagement and second-guessing that has poisoned this season.
The most interesting point I took [...]

Mets Ace Averts Disaster: Johan Santana Will Have Bone Spurs in Elbow Removed

AUTHOR: Adam Garnett | IN: Mets | COMMENTS: None Yet

PHEW!!!!!!! The doomsday scenario of Tommy John surgery for Johan Santana has seemingly been averted. Word just came down that the Mets ace has bone chips in his left elbow, will have surgery to clean them up, and will be out the remainder of 2009. The sigh of relief comes comes because it appears Johan will indeed only miss the next month or so and be ready for spring training in 2010.
On his conference call a few minutes ago, Omar Minaya was asked why Santana had continued to pitch when it was clear he was experiencing discomfort and the team [...]

You Just Knew Johan Santana’s Turn was Coming

AUTHOR: Adam Garnett | IN: Mets | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Seems as if I should have waited to post that last entry. I was expecting postgame to be drab and boring, but then Jerry Manuel decided to drop the little bombshell that Johan Santana is being scratched from his start Tuesday with elbow soreness. Of all the bad news the Mets have been hit with this year, this could turn out to be the worst by far.
Santana reportedly will stay back in New York to visit Dr. David Altchek and get an MRI on his left wing while the Mets travel to Florida to take on the Marlins. The team [...]

A Bright Afternoon at Citi Field in the Darkest Days

AUTHOR: Adam Garnett | IN: Mets | COMMENTS: None Yet

Howdy folks. Sitting up in the press box in an energetic, rocking Citi Field. What an afternoon. Blue skies with a few puffy clouds. The Phils and Mets locked in a late August NL East pennant race. Johan Santana, pitching to battery mate Victor Martinez, is going toe-to-toe with Cliff Lee………….You can’t blame a guy for day dreaming a little can ya?
I am indeed here in the Flushing Twilight Zone where stuff just keeps getting weirder and weirder. I am really looking forward to the postgame locker room where Bobby Parnell will give three-word answers as to why he stunk [...]

Vacation is Over For Me….Mets Probably Wish Their’s Started Yesterday

AUTHOR: Adam Garnett | IN: Mets | COMMENTS: None Yet

Ahhhh…A few days at the Jersey Shore, followed by a nice relaxing long weekend in the woods of Vermont. I figured I wouldn’t… really couldn’t miss too much Mets drama since how much more drama could really be left in this dreaded season. Well, of course I was wrong because making any predictions when it comes to this baseball team is just plain dumb.
I’ll be at Citi Field in about 12 hours to gleefully help send the Mets off after their long ?? game home stand. I should have plenty of time to blog from there and give my extended [...]

Ryan Church Feuds With Jerry Manuel; Alex Cora Signs Off

AUTHOR: Adam Garnett | IN: Mets | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

So long Alex Cora. Welcome back to the Mets graveyard, AKA, the ever-expanding DL. And I know everyone is excited to also welcome back the venerable Wilson Valdez.
The big story though coming out of Flushing, which of course is not baseball related, is Ryan Church’s return to Citi Field. Stemming from the scary concussion David Wright’s suffered via a Matt Cain’s beanball to his head, Church’s name has surfaced in reference to the shoddy decision making surrounding his diagnosis and treatment of his multiple brain brusies last year.
Check out Newsday’s story on the feud that has developed between Church and [...]

David Wright Gets Beaned in the Dome; Bobby Parnell Looks Sharp

AUTHOR: Adam Garnett | IN: Mets | COMMENTS: None Yet

I had the fortunate opportuity of being at the ballpark Friday night to welcome our lowly road warriors home from their stellar 2-5 trip out west. Amazingly, there was optimism abound before and after the 3-0 blanking of San Fran. Of course that optimism was squelched mighty quickly yesterday with the scary David Wright beanball incident and Frankie Rodriguez’s effort in the 10th inning.
There is no telling how long Wright may be out but from the looks of it and the reaction from some of his teammates, it could be awhile. You really have to feel for the kid after [...]
